Atelier ARI is a Rotterdam based design office with a focus on Architecture, Interior and Product Design. In our work, these disciplines are interconnected out of the conviction that they do not exist without each other and that every design evolves out of the understanding of its context.
ARI is constantly searching for ideas that add something unique to the world. Renewal is based on ongoing studies of missing ideas and elements within the built environment, renewal is the creation of special combinations and applications on the existing. The works of ARI are characterised by a clear design and organisation, always combined with a special twist and a predilection for craftsmanship and aesthetics.
ARI is founded by Joyce de Grauw (1982) and Paul van den Berg (1980). Joyce graduated Cum Laude at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy in Rotterdam in 2007. During her studies she won several awards including the Ronald F. Vermaas award. After her studies she worked at architectural firms as Doepel Strijkers and Van Mourik Architects, where she was involved in the design and completion of interior, architectural and urban projects. In 2013 Joyce and Paul started Atelier ARI.
Paul studied Architecture on the HTS Rotterdam, TU Delft and UCD Dublin. In addition to his studies, he participated on the publication of the theory book Architectural Positions and the organization of related lecture series. After his studies he worked at various architectural offices including BAR and ZUS [Zones Urbaines Sensibles], where he was involved in the design of public buildings, urban projects and the re-development of the Schieblock, Rotterdam. In 2011, he founded design office Paul Scales, which became Atelier ARI in 2013.
ARI is a small office, large projects are done in collaborations with well-known architectural firms in the Netherlands. ARI is responsible for the construction of a number of small-scale architectural and interior projects and have a number of furniture pieces in production. ARI can also be found on events such as the Festival of Architecture Vives in Montpellier, and will be exhibiting at the Biennale Interior 2014 in Kortrijk. - Who are you?
