BRIEF - PRODUCT DESIGN PHASE (read less)

Summary

Desall and Franklin & Marshall present “Franklin & Marshall goes Geek”, an international co-creation contest. Its aim is developing a new product or accessory that introduces the distinctive, college style of the brand F&M to the “geek” world.

Company description

Franklin & Marshall is an Italian brand from Verona that create fashion items and accessories, combining the quality “Made in Italy” with the American spirit, romantically linked to the past. At the heart of the brand origin there is the passion for the "varsity world"of the Anglo-Saxon colleges, but over the years F&M has interpreted a veritable lifestyle, oriented to innovation, sport, culture and music.

What we are looking for

F&M has always paid attention to the new trends, but it has never forgotten where it started. That’s why the company wants to launch an open challenge to creative talents and fashion designers: developing new products linked to the “geek” world and new technologies, keeping faithful to F&M style.

Guidelines
In this phase participants are invited to design accessories or cases for hi-tech devices or in alternative to present a fashion reinterpretation of hi-tech products, taking into account the following guidelines:

- Design an accessory for tech devices (for example a mobile cover, a case for laptop, tablet and smartphone, etc.) using sweatshirt fabric, iconic material of F&M, and the graphics, fonts and logos that characterize the brand;
- In alternative reinterpret a hi-tech product (for example headphones, speaker, digital watch, etc.) including the sweatshirt fabric and expressing F&M style;
- Projects assessment criteria: innovation, originality, feasibility, consistency with brief and brand.

The company
It’s Gross Domestic Wellbeing that leads the way F&M does business. Quality gives value to our work and this is what we want to transfer through our products. Quality means for us also responsibility towards the places where production is set up and towards the people who live there, supporting sports and educational projects. Sport and knowledge are the keys to guarantee to individuals psychophysical wellness, freedom of thought and the awareness of living in a world that gives inalienable rights and impose duties.

F&M does not tell fashion stories to the customer, but a pure lifestyle, inspired to the wellness that results from social, cultural and ethic relationships. We firmly believe that it is better to be here and observe the world with curious eyes rather than let somebody else tell how it is.

Revision 1 24 Apr, 13

A great news for all the participants of "Franklin & Marshall goes Geek": an important magazine will promote and give visibility to our contest! In order to size this great opportunity for all of us, Franklin & Marshall and Desall team have decided to prolong the Product Design Phase, postponing the deadline for submissions to 6th June 2013 at 23:59 (GMT +0). To those who will join our competition or have already sent their proposals, we would like to give a couple of hints: remember that in this phase the more detailed your design project is, the more chances of success you will have. Furthermore, don't limit your imagination: explore new uses of the sweatshirt fabric in hi-tech products or innovative accessories. Good luck!

BRIEF - NAMING PHASE (read less)

Earphones Strings
Winner of the previous phase.
The following brief is focused on this work.

Summary

Here we are at the second stage of the international co-creation contest “Franklin & Marshall goes geek”. The aim is to come up with the best name and payoff of the Earphone Strings developed in the previous phase.

Franklin&Marshall is an Italian brand focused on fashion items and accessories, combining the quality “Made in Italy” with the American spirit, romantically linked to the past. The attention to the new trends is the reason at the base of the open challenge “Franklin & Marshall goes Geek”.

The winner of the Product Design phase was Earphone Strings, a new product dedicated to young and geek customers. It’s an original and comfortable way to keep earphone wires out of the way integrating them with F&M sweatshirts.

What we need

Now, in this second phase participants are invited to find an effective name and a memorable payoff.

- Focus on the product: always refer back to the product, its features and uses. It’s an earphone string available in different colors coordinated with those of the sweatshirts. The gadget has been designed to be integrated with the sweatshirt but it can be sold separately.

- Language: the product is meant for an international audience, so avoid names, payoffs and descriptions in any language different from English. Name and payoff should be
understandable but also stylish and original.

- Perfect name: the name should be short and catchy for an international young target. it may be easily remembered and associated with F&M.

- Catchy Pay off: think of a short and interesting payoff which grabs the attention of the customers. Remember the target: speak its language and be appealing.
